Logistics Supervisor

The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing transportation, traffic management, and logistics operations to ensure the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods throughout the supply chain. This role develops and implements logistics strategies, manages carrier relationships, negotiates freight rates and contracts, and analyzes transportation performance to drive continuous improvement.

The position has significant responsibility for traffic management functions, including carrier sourcing, transportation RFP leadership, freight tariff auditing, TMS rate validation, and freight cost control. The Logistics Supervisor partners closely with Operations, Customer Service, Sales, Warehousing, and Finance to improve service levels, reduce transportation costs, and support overall business objectives. This role also supervises a Logistics Specialist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and optimize logistics plans for the storage, movement, and distribution of products throughout the supply chain.
• Manage daily transportation and traffic functions to ensure timely and cost-effective shipment execution.
• Analyze logistics and transportation operations to identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and service enhancements.
• Source, evaluate, and manage trucking carriers, brokers, and transportation providers.
• Negotiate freight rates, transportation contracts, and service agreements.
• Lead or support transportation RFP processes, including bid analysis and carrier selection recommendations.
• Utilize DAT and other market intelligence tools to benchmark rates and identify freight savings opportunities.
• Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and carrier portals to validate rates and obtain competitive freight quotes.
• Maintain accurate freight tariffs, rate tables, and carrier performance records.
• Audit, review, and approve freight invoices for billing accuracy and compliance with negotiated rates.
• Monitor carrier performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Coordinate shipment scheduling between warehouses, carriers, brokers, customers, and internal departments.
• Investigate and resolve transportation, carrier, and freight-related issues.
• Analyze transportation costs and performance metrics and prepare reports for management.
• Collaborate with Operations, Customer Service, Sales, and Finance to support customer requirements and business goals.
• Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, shipping requirements, and company policies.
• Supervise, coach, and develop the Logistics Specialist.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
