Overview

We are seeking a Material Master Data Specialist to support material master data creation, research, validation, and governance activities. This role is responsible for researching manufacturer part numbers (MPNs), technical specifications, vendor documentation, and equipment information to support the creation and maintenance of Material IDs within SAP.

The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, analytical, and skilled at gathering and validating technical information from multiple sources. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of material master data used across procurement, inventory management, maintenance, and operational functions.

Responsibilities

• Research manufacturer part numbers (MPNs) using catalogs, websites, technical specifications, drawings, datasheets, and procurement documentation
• Gather and validate material attributes including:
  • Dimensions
  • Ratings
  • Materials of construction
  • Performance specifications
  • Certifications
  • Manufacturer information
• Determine whether existing Material IDs meet business requirements or if new Material IDs must be created
• Review technical specifications to ensure proper material classification, taxonomy assignment, and material group selection
• Complete required documentation and submit new Material ID requests for SAP setup and approval
• Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, procurement, maintenance, operations, vendors, and manufacturers to obtain missing information
• Audit material master records and identify duplicate or inaccurate material records
• Support material master data governance and continuous improvement initiatives
• Maintain accurate, traceable, and auditable documentation
• Provide guidance on material identification, manufacturer part numbers, and material master processes
• Support large projects involving hundreds of new Material IDs for operational facilities and infrastructure projects

• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including:
  • Sorting and filtering data
  • VLOOKUPs or similar lookup functions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple stakeholders
• Experience interpreting technical documentation, vendor catalogs, specifications, and equipment information

Preferred Qualifications

• SAP Material Master or SAP Materials Management (MM) experience
• Experience with Master Data Governance processes
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience researching:
  • Spare parts
  • MRO inventory
  • Electrical components
  • Mechanical equipment
  • Maintenance materials
• Utility, energy, industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, or supply chain experience
• Knowledge of material taxonomy and data governance standards
• Experience maintaining Approved Manufacturer Parts Lists (AMPL)
• Exposure to power generation, renewable energy, or related industries

Ideal Candidate Background

• 2+ years of relevant experience in materials management, inventory, warehouse operations, supply chain, purchasing, maintenance support, technical documentation, or related fields
• Strong curiosity and persistence when researching technical information
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data quality
• Comfortable communicating with vendors, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders
• Ability to validate information and solve data-related problems independently

Work Environment

• Hybrid office environment with occasional visits to warehouses, storerooms, or operational facilities
