Logistics Team Lead

Eddie Kane Steel Products, Inc. is a family owned business providing exceptional service in the steel industry for more than 26 years. The company motto is to "Treat others as you would have them treat you" and we are in search of a full time Logistics Team Lead for our Bridgewater, NJ facility.

General Description: Responsible for the flow of all inbound and outbound shipments and the proper staging of this material to ensure EKSP processes customer orders in an efficient, accurate and safe manner by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

Shipping & Outbound Logistics

• Direct and sometimes load box trucks, flatbeds, and outbound vehicles safely and accurately.
• Inspect all inbound & outbound shipments (as‑is and processed orders) to ensure they match all shipping paperwork.
• Ensure nothing is loaded without proper paperwork and all items listed on the BOL are loaded onto the correct truck.
• Complete required BOL checklist sections to ensure shipment accuracy.
• Use of measuring tools efficiently
• Work with the management to ensure packing slips, BOLs, MTRs, and all additional shipping documents are correct and included with the shipment.
• Verify BOLs are signed by carriers/drivers before leaving the facility.
• Ensure all skids are properly labeled with part numbers, customer PO, piece count, material grade, skid number, and BOL number.
• Ensure all skids are packaged in a clean presentable manner that ensures safe delivery and prevents damage.
• Route and schedule local trucks to customers utilizing stock on hand.
• Attend daily meetings with sales teams and executive board members.

Receiving & Inbound Logistics

• Inspect, document, and store incoming shipments to ensure accuracy and proper inventory management.
• Verify incoming material against purchase orders, packing lists, transfers and receiving documentation for correct quantities and quality.
• Quarantine internal and external rejections as required and notify plant management.
• Ensure receivers are filled out correctly and 100% complete and turned in through out the shift.

Material Handling & Movement

• Direct and sometimes collect parts and finished goods to fulfill customer orders.
• Ensure shipped material matches bills of lading and exceed customer expectations.
• Ensure skid weights meet customer requirements and never exceed loading limitations.
• Locate, separate, and transfer materials for value‑added processing using pick lists.
• Move materials to designated staging and stock locations with proper identification at all times.
• Maintain accurate daily move sheets for all material location changes.
• Assist burn table operators by pulling material to maintain workflow through work centers.
• Direct and operate forklifts and overhead cranes as required.
• Direct and serve as a backup crane operator as needed.

Leadership & Communication

• Communicate all relevant job‑related information daily to management and associated departments.
• Provide motivation, coaching, and leadership to assigned personnel.
• Plan, direct, and support the work of assigned staff to achieve efficient, accurate, and safe operations.

General Responsibilities

• Direct and continuously clean and maintain work areas, equipment, and support machinery.
• Review daily forklift and equipment inspections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills:

Basic mechanical aptitude

Basic reading and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)

Knowledge of overhead crane operation

Dexterity skills & balance

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds

Ability to lift (with hands & arms), bend, stoop, squat, stand or walk for extended periods of time

Good oral & written communication skills

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Prior experience helpful

• Work in a safe and controlled manner and operate equipment within the designated capacity
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times. Use any available time to clean work area and ensure all debris is disposed of properly.
• Promptly report any accidents, incidents, near misses or hazardous conditions to your supervisor
• Familiarity with all EKSP forms, documents, reports related to your job function, including but not limited to forms and reports related to inventory, logistics, & production/operations departments
• Maintain neat and accurate written production documentation as required
• Communicate all pertinent job related information to supervisor/manager on a daily basis
• Forward-thinking while learning from errors, with focus on quality and customer service, solutions and continual improvements
• Focus on efficiencies and time- and labor-saving steps; cost reduction; increased profitability
• Performs all duties as assigned

As a steel service center and distributor of hot-rolled prime and non-prime steel plate, Eddie Kane Steel sells on- and off-gauge, pattern and non-pattern plate sizes, ranging in thickness from 3/16 to 8 inches. Eddie Kane Steel maintains a diverse inventory of prime and non-prime steel plate and, for its strategic customer partners, stock inventory of custom-made parts. Value-added products include OEM parts, counterweights, and steel burn outs for diverse industries, including the waste industry, general building construction, transportation, agricultural and industrial equipment, drilling, theatrical stage, and elevator industries.
Eddie Kane Steel’s flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail.
Eddie Kane Steel’s processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface. Through close partnerships with vendors offering proven high-quality workmanship, we provide services such as painting and coating, stamping, embossing, slitting, sawing, turning, annealing, leveling, and pressing.
