Land Use Planning and Review Specialist

Job Description

To provide professional land use planning and review and processing of land use changes to include small and large area Comprehensive Plan Amendments, assist in activities or strategic initiatives in the County related to the County's Comprehensive Plan, Critical Area Planning studies, revitalization/redevelopment plans, strategic planning initiatives, and public/private development plans. This work includes a high degree of public involvement and interaction.

Participates in an assisting capacity on Comprehensive Plan Amendments, Comprehensive Plan consistency reviews, strategic planning initiatives and special projects. Assists in interpreting and analyzing potential outcomes and implications of development alternatives and drafting appropriate responses and recommendations. May also assist with Unified Development Code (UDC) Amendments. Exercises professional judgement in representing the Planning and Development Services Department in public hearings, presentations and meetings with the Board of County Commissioners, Planning Commission, County Attorney, and other County Departments; coordinates with municipalities, adjacent county governments, and other jurisdictions; advises and assists other County Departments, regional and state agencies, citizen groups, property owners and their agents, organizations, attorneys and other interested parties with respect to strategic planning initiatives and projects.

Participates in Planner of the Day (POD) program assisting the general public and County agencies and departments with general information requests.

Other land use, special study analysis, Neighborhood Workshop, CIVICS events, and other specific project work as assigned or requested.

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Land Use, Geography, or a closely aligned and related field. A minimum of one-year related professional planning experience (may include related planning internships). A Master's Degree may substitute for the required experience. Planning experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis depending on the type of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

GIS Mapping experience preferred.

Project Management certification or experience preferred.

AICP Preferred.

Professional staff experience working with local and/or state government and the public.

Conducting public meetings and communication skills preferred.

FEMA training preferred.

Job Competencies: Principles and practices of land use and public facilities planning, local and state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to land use planning, project management skills, facilitation skills, positive interpersonal skills, professional public speaking skills, strong written and oral communications skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software and become proficient in County used software such as LIMS, SharePoint, ArcGIS, eGenda, KRONOS and other software which the County may utilize.

$42,036.80 - $57,491.20
