We are seeking an efficient, flexible, and highly motivated Pharmacist to join our Long-Term Care team as a Float Pharmacist, based out of Iowa City, supporting operations across our Medicap Pharmacy LTC Iowa City and Waterloo locations. This role is responsible for providing consistent, high-quality pharmacy services while covering staffing needs, supporting workflow continuity, and ensuring compliance across assigned sites.

Under indirect supervision, provides a full range of patient services by filling prescriptions, counseling patients, supervising Pharmacy Technicians, and providing professional services. Assures that all services comply with professional standards and applicable laws while adapting to the operational needs of multiple pharmacy locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Dispensing & Clinical Responsibilities

  • Interprets written prescriptions, checks for drug interactions and allergies, enters prescription and patient data into the computer system, and provides prescription information to Pharmacy Technicians for filling.
  • Supervises Pharmacy Technicians and verifies all work for accuracy.
  • Serves patients by counseling over the phone and in person, providing clear instructions on medication use, duration, and expected outcomes.
  • Consults with healthcare professionals and conducts research as necessary to ensure optimal patient care and compliance with professional standards and state laws.
  • Counsels patients, residents, and caregivers to ensure understanding of treatment plans and achievement of therapeutic goals.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Reviews inventory and places medication orders as necessary while maintaining appropriate stock levels across assigned locations.
  • Ensures proper billing in compliance with insurance plans, CMS, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintains Schedule II perpetual inventory and ensures controlled substance compliance.
  • Completes third-party rejections and maintains required daily and weekly reports.
  • Follows company procedures for dispensing incidents, including timely reporting and documentation.
  • Maintains working knowledge of pharmacy systems, workflows, and processes at each assigned location.

Float Pharmacist Responsibilities

  • Provides pharmacist coverage across multiple LTC pharmacy locations as scheduled, including planned and unplanned absences.
  • Adapts quickly to varying workflows, teams, and site-specific processes while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensures continuity of pharmacy operations and consistent service standards across all assigned locations.
  • Communicates effectively with pharmacy managers and staff at each site regarding workflow, priorities, and any operational concerns.
  • Identifies opportunities for workflow improvement and helps standardize best practices across locations.
  • Maintains flexibility with scheduling, including potential travel between locations and adjusted work hours based on operational needs.

Compliance & Quality Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with all company procedures and federal and state laws, rules, and regulations across all assigned sites.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance, including reliability in covering assigned shifts at multiple locations.
  • Supports quality assurance initiatives and helps maintain consistency in processes and regulatory compliance across pharmacies.
  • Complies with all security and loss prevention procedures, including alarm systems and controlled substance security.

General Responsibilities

  • Develops courteous and professional relationships with patients, customers, and co-workers across all locations.
  • Maintains current state pharmacy license(s) as required for assigned locations.
  • Supports company objectives and performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license (must be eligible for all states/locations served).
  • One to two years of related experience; long-term care experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Ability to travel between pharmacy locations as required.
