CLASS TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Principal, provide an educational program and teach one or more classes in foreign language to students in grades 9-12 as part of a high school secondary teaching assignment; develop, implement and present lesson plans according to established curriculum standards and requirements.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Principles, theories, concepts, practices, procedures and techniques used in foreign language instruction.
Practices, methods and procedures involved in the preparation of instructional materials.
Curriculum standards, requirements, interpretation and application in foreign language instruction.
Student guidance principles and practices.
Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
Areas of instruction in foreign language, including aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.
Fluency in sign language for American Sign Language classes.
Extensive vocabulary and correct oral and written usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation of English and a designated second language.
Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of assigned students.
Operation of standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software.

Policies and objectives of assigned programs and activities.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

ABILITY TO:
Provide an educational program of foreign language and instructional activities to one or more classes of high school students.
Teach students in various areas of foreign language such as aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing utilizing established course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
Develop and implement lesson plans according to established curriculum standards and requirements.
Provide instruction to enhance student skills and knowledge.
Plan, implement and lead classroom discussions to enhance the speaking, hearing and comprehension skills of foreign language students
Develop, prepare and administer oral and written tests.
Grade tests and assignments and assess student performance and progress.
Read, write, comprehend and speak assigned foreign language fluently with accurate pronunciation and intonation.
Teach students who are learning sign language as a second language, and/or introduce sign language to deaf students when it is an American Sign Language (ASL)class.
Use ASL to communicate effectively in both formal and informal situations, demonstrating fluency and correct articulation, and a wide range of vocabulary when it is an (ASL) class.
Use ASL for different communicative purposes, including narrating, requesting, persuading, comparing and contrasting when it is an (ASL) class.
Observe and control student behavior in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Interpret and apply applicable laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with students.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Plan and organize work.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Work independently with little direction.
Maintain student records and files and prepare report cards.
Operate standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
