Position: Long-Term Substitute - K-5 Music Teacher

Dates: Approximately 8/17/26 - 9/18/26 (approximately 5 weeks)

Pay: $250 per day

Overview:

We are seeking a qualified long-term substitute to serve as a K-5 Music Teacher. This position is responsible for providing high-quality, standards-based music instruction to elementary students across grades K-5. The teacher will foster student engagement in vocal and instrumental music, rhythm, movement, and music appreciation while maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate music instruction for students in grades K-5
  • Teach fundamental music concepts including rhythm, melody, pitch, tempo, and dynamics
  • Lead students in vocal music, movement activities, and basic instrumental instruction (e.g., classroom percussion)
  • Prepare students for school performances, concerts, and assemblies as appropriate
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback aligned with instructional goals
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and building administrators
  • Maintain appropriate classroom management strategies that support student learning
  • Follow school and district curriculum guidelines and instructional expectations
  • Maintain accurate records as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field preferred
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Music endorsement preferred (or ability to obtain/hold appropriate substitute licensure)
  • Experience teaching elementary-aged students preferred
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to engage students in active, hands-on music learning experiences

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively with employees of the District.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in either written diagram or oral form.
  • Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
