The Wauwatosa School District seeks Long-term Substitute Science Teacher for Wauwatosa West High School. West High School serves approximately 918 students.
Position Summary: The Long-term Substitute Science Teacher
Tentative Dates: 8/24/26 - 01/22/27
Daily Hours: 7:30 - 3:30 pm
Pay Rate: Prorated from $190 per day

WSD partners with Edustaff to manage substitute staffing. Once a hiring administrator recommends a candidate for hire, the candidate will be connected with Edustaff to complete their onboarding process. This process includes various supports and resources tailored for substitute employees. We have worked to customize onboarding activities to efficiently and effectively meet our shared needs and will assist the recommended candidate through this process.
REQUIRED:
- Relevant certification through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (Teaching Certification)
- Strong content knowledge, with the ability to teach high school students
- Ability to differentiate instruction in mixed-ability classrooms
- Experience working with children (preferred)
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in both oral and written form
- Ability to work independently
Essential Job Functions:
- Follows lesson plan left by the teacher for whom he/she is substituting
- Maintains classroom environment conducive to effective learning
- Maintains a safe environment, taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, colleagues, visitors, materials, equipment, and facilities.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding students and staff
- Supervises students inside and outside the classroom
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and recess periods
- Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments
- Holds expectations for high performance of self and students
- Performs various clerical functions (e.g., taking attendance)
- Demonstrates computer literacy and operates software programs as related to job responsibilities
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
- Performs other duties as may be assigned
