Job Goal: Under the supervision of the school administrator, Long-term Substitute Teachers are responsible for supporting and assisting in the delivery of effective, high-quality, rigorous instruction in various content areas while following the district curriculum to assist in producing positive, measurable results and student understanding. Long-term Substitute Teachers collaborate with certified teachers for guidance in the planning of lessons and interventions. Substitute teachers are responsible for observing and evaluating the academic performance of students, and social-emotional needs and participate in Professional Development Learning.

Job Qualifications: • Associates degree required • Bachelors degree preferred (any concentration) • Experience in collaborating with peers in a professional work or school environment • Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions • Ability to communicate in both oral and written expression • Ability to effectively present information and respond to students, parents, and staff • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student matters • Ability to provide equitable and fair treatment to all students and families • Outstanding ability to motivate and build relationships with students and parents • Commendable employment/school history of effective leadership, acceptable attendance record, and excellent performance • Demonstrate ability and knowledge in classroom management, organization, planning, instructional delivery, leadership, and technical skills • Willingness to advance knowledge in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students by creating a positive learning experience

Special Requirements: Attend district Professional Development Learning sessions to advance knowledge in student safety, teaching, instruction, and restorative practices.

Essential Functions: • Develop and/or assist in the development of daily and unit lesson plans and a scope and sequence that are thoughtful, goal-oriented, and aligned with curriculum and integrate technology: maintain a pace of learning and provide opportunities for student differences; and check for student understanding and convey appropriate high expectations for students. • Carefully implement and/or plan lessons and provide a summary at the end of the day upon request. • Follow school procedures to maintain a safe environment for students and staff (arrival & and dismissal procedures, emergency protocols, hallway transitions, support for the social-emotional development of students) while maintaining communication with administration, colleagues, families, and students. • Promote a high rate of student interest and provide prompt and specific feedback in a constructive manner and opportunities for active participation; demonstrate fairness and consistency in dealing with students. • Comply with policies, regulations, and procedures of the school district and building; communicate effectively with parents and work collaboratively with staff. • Display high-level professional conduct and image at all times; establish and maintain an acceptable attendance record; and participate in extra-curricular activities and/or leadership roles outside the classroom when necessary. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, use hands to the finger(s), handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, use fingers to type and/or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20 pounds. If lifting in excess of this weight is necessary, the assistance of a second person is required. The physical demands of this position will also include the ability of the individual to perform all of the essential functions and related responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Work Environment: This position normally performs the majority of work in a school building or work office environment.
