Summary

Serves as an educational specialist and consultant to faculty in implementing and evaluating required academic components and educational objectives of the medical school curriculum. Responsible for oversight of daily operations in the longitudinal curriculum, including curriculum implementation and staff management. Assists and ensures successful implementation of the development of new educational initiatives that are relevant to medical education. Actively participates in the curriculum by serving on multiple committees and attending conferences. Provides centralized coordination of curriculum to ensure consistency throughout the program.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in education, health or other related field with two years' experience in education required (preferably academic medicine). Master's degree in related field preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for staff oversight, including hiring, professional development, promoting, and annual performance reviews for staff.
  • Actively participates and contributes to the decision-making as a member of the curriculum committees and subcommittees.
  • Advise on operations of implementing curricular elements, including design, delivery, and assessment.
  • Responsible for designing, developing, and implementing curricular initiatives in collaboration with course directors and faculty.
  • Provides staff development to departmental staff, small groups, and teaching faculty on educational initiatives and LCME accreditation issues.
  • Monitors curricular and evaluation activities and makes recommendations for standardization across the longitudinal curriculum.
  • Provides direct management and oversight of the Medical Education longitudinal staff to ensure teaching faculty and staff have the resources required to meet curricular requirements.
  • Reviews curricular components on a continual basis (Quality Assurance and Improvement) to ensure consistency is met regarding goals, objectives, academic calendars, instruction, orientations, and faculty and student evaluations. In collaboration with the Deans for Medical Education, make recommendations for changes or improvements based on outcome data.
  • Trains, coaches, and monitors individual staff in implementing systems to optimize the curriculum experiences. Coordinates with various educational departments to implement and optimize curricular events.
  • Oversees process and implementation of longitudinal academic calendar for all years of the MD program. Oversees and manages scheduling systems. Communicates regularly with current building Property Mgmt. (Cushman & Wakefield) personnel to ensure consistency in room setup and scheduling.
  • Responsible for coordination with student groups and UME curriculum to ensure minimal scheduling conflicts, and address scheduling needs.
  • Recruits and coordinates faculty facilitators for courses and evaluation activities. In collaboration with the Director of Curricular Affairs, responsible for payment of facilitators.
  • Manages the maintenance and update related to the curricular components of the technology delivery programs for the pre-clerkship and longitudinal curriculum. Make recommendations for changes based on student needs as identified.
  • Maintains statistics and data on faculty participation in activities of the pre-clerkship and longitudinal curriculum. Make recommendations based on identified trends.
  • Manages and coordinates large-scale curriculum events, including assessment/examinations events and interprofessional events with other professional programs. Responsible for implementation of longitudinal curriculum as necessary.
  • Coordinates staff logistical cooperation and mutual support with the MD program foundations curriculum (pre-clerkship) and clinical training teams. Coordinates with the Center for Experiential and Applied Learning (CEAL) Standardized Patient (SP) team and leadership to meet simulation curricular needs.
  • In collaboration with the Deans for Medical Education, AVP of Medical Education Administration and Operations and the Director of Curricular Affairs contribute to developing and managing budget expenditures.
  • Researches and attends local/national meetings related to the changing landscape of medical education and future healthcare workforce needs.
