We are an EEO employer, a family own business that has been servicing South Florida for over 50 years. Total Appliance and A/C Repairs, Inc. is looking for an experience Commercial HVAC Tech long-term commitment.
Job description:
Total Appliance and A/C Repairs, Inc. is a family-owned company serving South Florida for over 50 years. Between our commercial service base and a growing retrofit pipeline, we need experienced mechanics who can do it all — keep central plants running and handle the equipment change-outs when it's time to replace them. This is not service-only and it's not project-only. We're looking for a mechanic who can troubleshoot a down cooling tower on a Saturday and run a retrofit change-out from plans on Monday. All of our work is on existing condominiums and commercial properties across Miami-Dade, Broward, and South Palm beach — cooling tower and chiller replacements, pump and piping change-outs, RTU swaps, and mechanical retrofits. No new construction.
Reasonable Accommodations Statement

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

What you'll do:

Service & Repair

  • Diagnose, service, and repair commercial HVAC: chillers, cooling towers (open and closed-circuit), condenser water and chilled water pumps, domestic water booster pumps, RTUs, condensing units, water-source heat pumps, DOAS units, VFDs, and low-voltage controls
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC systems and keep assigned equipment on its PM schedule
  • Troubleshoot the refrigerant circuit, hydronic loops, and three-phase electrical, including compressors, reversing valves, metering devices, contactors, relays, transformers, and 24V control circuits
  • Diagnose airside comfort problems: temperature, humidity, and airflow measurement and control, using psychrometric readings where needed
  • Service pumps, both HVAC and domestic (seals, bearings, impellers, pressure tanks, controls), cooling tower fans, motors, gearboxes, and fill, plus make-up water and water-treatment components
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot VFDs (ABB, Danfoss, Yaskawa, Schneider, etc.) and interface with BAS/DDC controls and controls contractors
  • Respond to emergency callouts; a down tower or pump in summer can't wait until Monday
Change-Outs, Retrofits & Running Jobs

  • Perform equipment replacements and retrofits on existing systems: cooling towers, chillers, RTUs, condensing units, pumps (chilled water, condenser water, heating water, domestic booster), VFDs, and related mechanical equipment
  • Demo and remove old equipment; rig and set the new, including coordinating crane picks and roof access with the project lead
  • Read and work from mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, submittals, and specs; red-line as-builts as installed conditions change
  • Plan and execute shutdowns and tie-ins with property management, minimizing downtime for occupied buildings
  • Braze, pipe, and fit refrigerant and hydronic piping; pressure test, recover, evacuate, and charge systems
  • Order and track materials and parts for your jobs and keep the work moving
  • Work to code and pass inspections: mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant handling per city, state, and federal regulations
On every job

  • Complete service tickets, work orders, and job documentation; communicate clearly with dispatch, office, and property managers
  • Work from O&M manuals, manufacturer literature, safety rules, and written procedures
  • Follow safety procedures and identify and correct unsafe conditions on site
  • Care for company assets: vehicle, tools, meters, and recovery equipment
  • Organize your workload, meet deadlines, and follow company policies and procedures
What we're looking for

  • 5+ years verifiable commercial HVAC experience covering both service/repair and equipment change-out work (REQUIRED)
  • EPA Universal Certification required
  • HVAC certification or technical school credential a plus
  • Strong on the refrigerant circuit, hydronics (chilled/condenser water systems), and three-phase electrical troubleshooting
  • Hands-on with chillers, cooling towers, HVAC and domestic pumps, and VFDs; able to diagnose and repair, not just swap
  • Able to read mechanical blueprints, riser diagrams, and electrical/control schematics, and work from a sequence of operations
  • Comfortable diagnosing heat pump and heating-cycle issues; knowledge of heat load calculations a plus
  • Rigging experience with motors, compressors, and large equipment
  • Building automation / low-voltage controls and 100% outside air (DOAS) experience a plus
  • High school diploma or GED; technical school graduates preferred
  • Reliable, safety-minded, and able to represent Total professionally on occupied properties

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift and/or carry moderate weight (15-75 pounds), sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, reach repetitive hand motions, hear, speak, some travel within the district and occasionally outside the district/county, may experience prolonged and irregular work hours, and work with frequent interruptions.
