Low/Medium Voltage Switchgear Test Technician

A day in this role

In our New Stanton, PA shop, you’ll begin your day reviewing test plans and engineering documents for a lineup of low and medium voltage switchgear. Under the guidance of your supervisor, you’ll set up test stations, connect instruments, and verify that each unit performs to spec. Early assignments are hands-on and closely reviewed—your independence will grow as your skills do.

What you’ll do

• Execute electrical and mechanical tests on switchgear, subcomponents, and cell-related items.
• Use AC dielectric testers, AC/DC power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, current sources, and electronic loads to validate performance.
• Read and follow basic electrical/mechanical drawings, codes, schematics, manuals, blueprints, and procedures; capture results accurately.
• Configure equipment and wiring to test low- and medium-voltage breakers for both refurbishments and new builds per engineering direction.
• Perform point-to-point wire verification and test subassemblies using foundational electro-mechanical theory.
• Install components, units, subassemblies, wiring, and casings with rivets, bolts, and connectors.
• Plan, lay out, assemble, or fabricate mechanical, electrical, and basic pneumatic/hydraulic equipment as needed.

How you’ll work

You’ll follow standard procedures and communicate straightforward findings. Work is completed under general direction with close supervision on new tasks. Initial assignments are in a training phase and are checked for quality and accuracy. Decision-making autonomy increases with experience.

Location and reporting

This position is based in New Stanton, PA and reports to the Assistant Area Manager, Mechanical Product.

What you bring

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 0–2 years of experience demonstrating electrical, mechanical, machining, or inspection skills.
• Ability to interpret electrical/mechanical drawings and perform assembly and wiring.
• Familiarity with electrical equipment, painting methods, and safe use of hand and power tools.
• Proficiency in Hi-Pot (High Potential) / High Voltage testing.

Nice to have

• Experience in the nuclear industry.
