Low Observable Coatings and Sheet Metal Technician

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Low Observable Coatings and Sheet Metal Technician at Tyndall AFB, FL for a 5-month onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The Low Observable Coatings and Sheet Metal Technician will perform low-observable restoration, aircraft structural modifications, sheet-metal fabrication, bonding, and coating activities on fighter aircraft. This role requires experience with low-observable or high-gloss paint systems, flight-line maintenance, aircraft drawings, precision measurement, and fabrication tools.

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree with 3–5 years of relevant experience, master’s degree with up to 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent military, technical, or aircraft-maintenance experience.
• 4–6 years of low-observable coating or high-gloss paint-system experience.
• 2–4 years of fighter-aircraft experience involving platforms such as the F-16, F-18, F-22, or F-35.
• 2–4 years of flight-line maintenance experience.
• USAF 5-Level or 7-Level qualification, Navy NEC, Marine MOS discipline rating, Airframe and Powerplant certificate, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings, technical manuals, structural repair manuals, and technical orders.
• Ability to identify aircraft locations using station, butt-line, and waterline references.
• Experience applying low-observable coatings.
• Experience with aircraft sheet-metal fabrication, structural repair, bonding, or modification work.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and standard scales.
• Experience using drills, angle motors, shears, drill presses, pneumatic riveters, and related fabrication tools.
• Ability to wear a full-face respirator, Tyvek suit, gloves, and other required protective equipment.
• Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and FOD-free work area.

Preferred Skills

• F-22 or F-35 aircraft experience.
• Formal low-observable coating application training.
• Composite-material experience.
• Experience with aircraft paint processes and high-gloss finish systems.
• Ability to read and interpret aircraft paint and stencil drawings.
• Knowledge of paint-mixing ratios, viscosity requirements, application methods, and finish-quality standards.

What You’ll Do

• Perform low-observable restoration and aircraft modification activities.
• Fabricate shims, splices, gussets, angles, brackets, doublers, stiffeners, patches, and related detail parts.
• Trim, file, drill, rivet, reform, fit, and deburr aircraft parts and assemblies.
• Perform bonding operations on aircraft parts, assemblies, and materials.
• Develop layouts and locate materials to maintain required contours, edge distances, and coordinated dimensions.
• Prepare, mix, and apply bonding and coating materials.
• Set up and operate material testers and mixers.
• Verify installed materials for compliance with engineering specifications.
• Determine the materials and labor required for repairs.
• Remove, correct, and reinstall parts affected by design or modification changes.
• Create shop aids to support fabrication, bonding, and assembly operations.
• Record procedural and technical information for future use.
• Maintain compliance with safety, quality, FOD, and protective-equipment requirements.

Pay

• $20.79–$35.69 per hour
