Low Tension Line Worker
Examples of Duties
Traffic Engineering: Under supervision, is responsible for all aspects of building and maintaining the traffic signal system except the wiring and programming of the signal controller. Erects and maintains all traffic signal installations including, but not limited to, digging and pouring foundations, setting signal supports, installing signal cable, and wiring traffic and pedestrian signals. Troubleshoots power hook-ups. Repairs power hook-ups and lead-ins. Energizes the traffic signal to an overhead and/or underground power source lower than 600 volts. Performs other job-related duties as required.
Cleveland Public Power: Under direct and occasional general supervision, is responsible for all duties associated with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of street lighting. Installs and removes secondary loops, wires, and cables for street lighting and secondary distribution under 600 volts. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs street lighting circuitry as needed. Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have completed a three-level apprenticeship program administered by the City of Cleveland or another recognized apprenticeship program OR must be a certified electrician by the State of Ohio. (Substitution: Any experience as a Low or High Tension Lineman other than with the City of Cleveland may be substituted for the Citys apprenticeship program.) Valid State of Ohio Class "A" or "B" Commercial Drivers License is required. Valid State of Ohio Class "A" is preferred. Must be able to work overtime during emergencies and for call outs. Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds.
