    Description

The Low-Voltage Component Design Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for the development, integration, validation, and production release of multiple electrical and electronic modules. Components may include vehicle control units, body control modules, digital displays, instrument clusters, telematics modules, ADAS integration units, gateways, and other low-voltage electronic devices used within Workhorse vehicle platforms.

The DRE will manage assigned components throughout the complete automotive development lifecycle, from requirements definition and supplier sourcing through software and hardware integration, validation, production launch, and field support.

    Responsibilities

    • Own the design, development, integration, validation, and release of assigned low-voltage electrical and electronic modules
    • Develop, maintain, and refine component-level technical, functional, electrical, communication, and diagnostic requirements
    • Define and manage module interfaces, including power, grounding, communication, inputs, outputs, and vehicle-level functionality
    • Lead technical evaluations and support supplier selection and sourcing activities
    • Manage supplier hardware, software, calibration, manufacturing, validation, and production-readiness activities
    • Develop and maintain component timing plans, validation plans, release documentation, and engineering deliverables
    • Track and report component development status, software maturity, validation progress, production readiness, risks, and open issues
    • Review supplier designs, schematics, drawings, specifications, interface-control documents, software release notes, test reports, and technical documentation
    • Ensure components communicate correctly with other vehicle systems and meet vehicle-level functional and diagnostic requirements
    • Support prototype, mule, design-validation, and production-validation vehicle builds
    • Provide on-site engineering support at prototype build locations, supplier facilities, and Workhorse manufacturing plants
    • Lead component and vehicle-level troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and issue resolution
    • Support production, field-service, warranty, and customer issues involving assigned modules
    • Ensure components meet performance, reliability, quality, safety, cybersecurity, cost, and timing requirements
    • Drive issues to closure while coordinating activities across suppliers and internal cross-functional teams

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
    • Two to five years of engineering experience within the automotive industry
    • Experience developing or integrating automotive electrical modules, controllers, displays, or electronic systems
    • Understanding of vehicle electrical architectures, communication networks, and module interfaces
    • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols such as CAN and LIN
    • Understanding of automotive development phases, including mule, design validation, production validation, and production launch
    • Experience managing multiple components, suppliers, and development activities simultaneously
    • Strong technical communication, problem-solving, and project-management skills
    • Ability to work effectively with electrical, software, mechanical, validation, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and service teams
    • Ability and willingness to travel to supplier engineering and manufacturing locations
