Job Summary: The Low Voltage Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting low-voltage electronic systems typically operating under 50 volts. This position involves working with security systems, access control systems, intercoms, structured cabling, and IP-based devices. The technician ensures all systems are installed in accordance with industry standards, are fully documented, and operate reliably and efficiently.

 

Credentials: High school diploma or GED required. Demonstrated working knowledge of low-voltage systems and structured cabling standards. Ability to properly terminate and test Cat6, Cat6a, and multi-cable systems. Proficiency in basic testing and troubleshooting of low-voltage systems, with familiarity using industry-standard tools and equipment. Low-voltage or related technical certification preferred.

 

Other Qualifications: Preferred 1–3 years of experience installing, maintaining, or repairing low-voltage systems. Experience with access control systems and/or security systems is strongly preferred.

 

Physical Demands: Must have and maintain physical, sensory, emotional and mental abilities necessary for effective communication in person, in writing and by telephone. Must have good memory skills; be able to organize thoughts and activities, do basic mathematical computations; articulate clearly. Must be emotionally mature and able to appropriately handle stress.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Run, terminate, and connect wiring and cabling for low-voltage electronic systems
  • Install and service systems including:
    • Security camera systems
    • Access control systems
    • Intercom systems
    • Structured cabling (Cat6, Cat6a, analog and digital voice)
  • Punch down and terminate cables, jacks, 110 blocks, and 66 blocks
  • Install, terminate, and dress low-voltage cabling in MDF/IDF and rack environments
  • Assist in build-out and configuration of infrastructure rack and equipment rooms
  • Install IP-based devices such as:
    • Wireless access points
    • Cameras
    • A/V equipment
  • Perform basic programming, installation, and servicing of access control systems
  • Troubleshoot cabling issues, connectivity problems, and mislabeled cables using toning equipment
  • Bundle, label, and organize cabling at MDF/IDF locations
  • Document work completed on each project.

 

In addition to essential job functions listed above, perform other duties as assigned.

Staff Relationship: Reports directly to the Director of Technology.

Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) months, salary and benefits set annually. Non-exempt
