Job Position: Low Voltage Technician Travel Position
Location: Abilene, TX 78601
Pay Rate: $20 $30/hour (DOE) + Travel Per Diem (if applicable)
TradeSTAR is seeking experienced Low Voltage Installation Technicians to join our growing team. This position requires extensive travel to commercial and industrial project sites throughout the United States. Candidates must possess a strong understanding of structured cabling systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and low-voltage integration.
Responsibilities
Install, terminate, label, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling systems.
Perform copper terminations on 66 blocks, 110 blocks, patch panels, keystone jacks, and modular connectors.
Terminate and test single-mode and multimode fiber using fusion splicing and mechanical splice methods.
Install cable pathways including EMT, J-hooks, cable tray, ladder rack, basket tray, conduit, and surface raceway.
Read and interpret construction drawings, one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, floor plans, and telecommunications schematics.
Install and commission access control, IP surveillance (CCTV), intrusion detection, intercom, audiovisual, and wireless infrastructure.
Perform cable certification using Fluke DSX Series testers, OTDRs, power meters, and continuity testing equipment.
Install and troubleshoot network hardware including switches, wireless access points, IDFs, MDFs, racks, cabinets, UPS systems, and grounding/bonding infrastructure in accordance with ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards.
Maintain accurate as-built documentation, cable labeling, test reports, and project closeout documentation.
Follow OSHA safety standards and maintain a clean, organized worksite.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of commercial low-voltage installation experience.
Experience with structured cabling, fiber optics, security systems, and network infrastructure.
Familiarity with ANSI/TIA-568, ANSI/TIA-606, ANSI/TIA-607, NEC Article 725, and BICSI installation practices.
Experience operating scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other aerial equipment.
OSHA 10/30, BICSI Installer, or manufacturer certifications are a plus.
Ability to troubleshoot Layer 1 connectivity issues using industry-standard test equipment.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Must be able to travel extensively and work overtime when project schedules require.
Physical Requirements
Lift up to 50 lbs.
Work on ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms.
Perform overhead cable installation for extended periods.
Ability to work in construction environments, data centers, warehouses, hospitals, schools, and commercial facilities.
