Responsibilities
The Charlotte Lab School Teacher Assistant will have responsibilities in multiple classrooms in support of Lab’s instructional vision and under the guidance of the Lead Classroom Teacher:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff;
- Assist in the delivery specialized instruction to students on his/her caseload;
- Assist with the completion of progress reports quarterly based on specific student goals;
- Use flexible grouping and scheduling;
- Maintain communication with the teaching team regarding specific student needs;
- Participate in weekly team meetings;
- Analyze data and reports to guide goal setting and instructional planning;
- Monitor student progress through a variety of tools and portfolios;
- Provide necessary supports to aid instruction in the classroom;
- Proctor standardized tests;
- Communicate frequently and regularly with families of students, for both academic and behavior-related reasons, both positive and when needing assistance;
- Participate actively in Lab’s community activities, in support of Lab’s instructional, community-building, fundraising, family recruitment, and hiring efforts;
- Participate actively in ongoing professional development and teacher evaluation process;
- Supervise students and maintain a clean, orderly, safe, print-rich and positive classroom learning environment;
- Take on other responsibilities as needed, and as assigned, to ensure student and school success.
The Charlotte Lab School Lower School Teacher will also have responsibilities in support of Lab’s vision for students’ social-emotional learning:
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of students; in this role:
- Deliver a social-emotional skills curriculum;
- Develop deep relationships with students in your advisory;
- Develop and implement activities to build community within the advisory;
- Serve as an advocate for advisees, for both academic and disciplinary reasons;
- Provide regular updates and communication with advisees’ families;
- Guide advisees in the preparation of their Student-Led Conferences each trimester;
- Operate as liaison between advisees’ families and the school.
Qualifications
Candidate MUST:
- Be able/willing to learn how to fulfill the responsibilities listed above;
- Demonstrate experience in, or passion for, teaching diverse populations.
In addition, the Lab School Leadership Team will look favorably upon candidates who:
TEACHER PREPARATION:
- ?Hold a Bachelor's degree from a four year institution;
- Be fully licensed or willing to obtain North Carolina K-5, 6-8 and/or 9-12 teacher licensure;
- Have a least 2 years of full-time teaching experience;
- Have experience teaching relevant Elementary School Content Area;
- Have an advanced degree in a related field;
- Have comfort with technology and experience with Google Suite;
- Possess strong classroom management skills;
- Are exceptionally organized and have ability to prioritize effectively and meet competing deadlines;
- Have experience with standards based grading;
- Have dual-certification to teach Elementary School students and:
- Exceptional Children
- Academically Gifted students
- English as a Second Language;

Physical Requirements
The employee must have the ability to perform the following physical tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities:
- Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the instructional day
- Lift and carry classroom materials, instructional resources, and student work (up to 50 pounds) with or without accommodations
- Bend, kneel, and reach to access materials, work at student level, and assist students

- Use fine motor skills including writing, typing, and manipulating small objects
- Hear and respond to student needs, questions, and behavioral issues
- See clearly to monitor student work, write on boards, and read instructional materials

- Assist students with personal hygiene needs as appropriate (for primary grades)
- Respond quickly to student safety emergencies and assist students in evacuation procedures
- Transport students or materials as needed for instructional purposes

Environmental/Working Conditions
- Works in a school building environment with multiple classrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces
- Exposure to occasional loud noise in classroom and common areas
- Frequent interaction with students, families, colleagues, and community members
- May be exposed to communicable diseases
- Works a standard school year calendar (approximately 180 instructional days) with additional time for planning and professional development
- May be required to attend evening events (family nights, performances, conferences) and weekend professional development
- Subject to fingerprinting, background checks, and other screening as required by law
