Description

Position:          Medical Healthcare Provider Reports to:     Medical Team Leader Purpose: Aid clients with medical needs. Summary: Provide health care services to Harbor Light detox and program clients according to professional standards and The Salvation Army Harbor Light Policies and Procedures. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage all inquires with regards to information, referral, and/or possible admission
  • Conduct pre-admission screenings of potential clients for detoxification services, schedule detoxification admissions according to Harbor Light admission criteria
  • Conduct client admissions/discharges to detoxification and residential programs, including completion of all required medical documents
  • Provide general health care of clients which includes but is not necessarily limited to: a) administering and recording medications as prescribed by attending physicians, b) perform vital sign checks and document results
  • Take appropriate action as directed by attending physician to ensure clients medical stability and in cases of emergency facilitate assistance per Harbor Light protocol. 
  • Assist Medical Director or designate in the provision of medical services
  • Work with the treatment team to maintain order, discipline, and a substance free environment
  • Attend all required staff meetings; training sessions, seminars and/or workshops for staff development 
  • Maintain records, charts, logs and all other pertinent data for the medical unit on a daily basis
Qualifications:
  • Possess working knowledge  of Occupation, Safety, and Health Administration standards and Universal Precautions
  • Possess good communication skills
  • TB Test and police clearance required
  • Authorization to work within The United States
Education/Experience:
  • Experience in substance abuse preferred
Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications and email
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred
  1. Reasoning Ability:
    • Understand and work within The Salvation Army and Harbor Light Mission Statements
    • Possess an excellent working knowledge of The Harbor Light Policies and Procedures
  1. Certificates and Licenses:
    • Must possess one of the following Michigan licenses: Registered Nurse, Practical Nurse, EMT, or Paramedic
  1. Physical Demands:  
    • Ability to life 25 pounds
    • Frequent walking, bending, standing, and sitting for long periods of time
    • Capability to visually evaluate and observe people and inspect packages and events
    • The ability to hear and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  1. Work Environment: 
    • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and biohazards
  1. In addition:Must be highly organized, motivated, a self starter with the ability to multi-task, be creative.
