Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long-term care under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting, utilizing appropriate age and population-specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team
  • Support resident-centered care plans
  • Maintain a safe, compassionate, and respectful environment
  • Contribute to the assessment of residents and administer medications or treatments as ordered
  • Provide technical support to healthcare professionals as needed
  • Document resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication behavior, activity, and dietary
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with resident healthcare providers and the public
  • Communicate clearly and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Counsel residents, family members, and/or resident advocates under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician on prevention and treatment plans
  • Develop a self-care program for residents
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred
  • If position requires IV therapy management skills, graduation from a Board-approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing is required
  • Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculum or have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at another facility
  • Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing Board and/or possesses multi-state licensure privileges
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department-specific competencies and certifications
  • Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility
