The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on the Medical Surgical Unit provides skilled nursing care to patients with acute medical and surgical conditions. The LPN manages patient assignments with RN support, performs clinical procedures such as IV management, blood product administration, and wound care, and participates in rapid response and telemetry monitoring. This role requires strong clinical skills, acute care experience, and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Responsibilities:
Required Skills & Certifications:
Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in New York State (no pending licenses accepted).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Minimum two years acute care experience within the past two years.
Proficiency in EPIC charting system.
Ability to manage patient assignments with RN support.
Clinical skills including blood product administration, IV therapy, phlebotomy, wound care, and telemetry monitoring.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
Experience in complex care units including medical, ortho overflow, and long-term patients.
Familiarity with advanced therapies such as feeding tube management, pacemaker monitoring, and rapid response participation.
Special Considerations:
Shift includes 7 PM to 7 AM, 13-week contract.
Every other weekend and holiday work required.
Hospital may cancel up to three shifts during the contract period.
Floating within the skill set is required.
Scrub colors designated as navy blue and white.
Work environment includes a complex care, high-acuity hospital setting.
Scheduling:
Night shift from 7 PM to 7 AM.
Work schedule includes every other weekend and holiday coverage.
Special scheduling requests must be submitted at time of application.
Shift assignments and cancellations managed by hospital policy during the 13-week contract.
