    Job Description

    Overview:

    The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.

    An LPN performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse

    Some of the skills performed

    ·        Works with RN shares responsibility for team of patients

    ·        Administration of IV fluids

    ·        Administration of medications  (certain IV medications after successful completion of certification class)

    ·        Venipuncture for blood collection

    ·        Insertion of IV cannulas

    ·        Physical Assessment and collecting of information

    ·        Fingerstick & Heelstick blood sugars

    ·        Directing staff in patient care

    ·        Insertion of foley catheters

    ·        Dressing wounds and skin care

    ·        Quick Cult

    ·        Provides newborn care

    ·        Provides post-partum, pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care

    Qualifications:

     

    Graduation from an accredited Practical Nurse Program and current licensure by the Alabama State Board of Nursing.

     

    After orientation demonstrates and maintains skills and knowledge pertinent to the practice and education of a Licensed Practical Nurse

     

    Successful completion of NRP certification within one year
