    PositionSummary – We are looking for an LPN who will take pride in providing excellent orthopedic patient care in a fast-paced environment by building relationships and inspiring patients to participate in their care.  This position is responsible for assisting providers and the nursing team in the delivery of professional medical care.  Specific duties include pre-visit planning, rooming patients, obtaining vitals, utilizing the EMR system, scanning and downloading of documents.  The LPN will provide clinical services under the direction of a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, and/or physician assistant.
     
    EssentialDuties and Responsibilities – The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Assist practitioners with patients; escorts patients to rooms, take vital signs, and educate patients as directed by a physician
    • Talk with patients regarding scheduled tests and test results as indicated from charts after review by physician
    • Answer minor medical problem questions for patients
    • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans
    • Accurately document all care provided to the patient in the patient’s medical record
    • Assist the provider with examinations and in office procedures
    • Ensure patient information is available for the provider prior to start of clinic
    • Retrieve messages and respond to calls from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes and other medical offices by use of telephone and computer in a timely manner as delegated by licensed health care provider
    • Collect subjective and objective data and contribute to the assessment of the patient then document appropriately in the patient medical record
    • Make accurate and timely observation and document changes in the patient’s condition in the patient medical record
    • Explain surgeries, tests and preparation as needed for adequate patient education
    • Address patient calls or route them to the appropriate clinical staff daily
    Specifications/Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.)
    • Exemplary customer service experience including client relationships and job knowledge
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively; ability to critically think
    • Ability to exercise manual dexterity, control precision and arm-hand steadiness accurately
    • Able to plan, prioritize, and complete tasks under stress with frequent interruptions
    • Able to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families
    • Able to educate patients about their upcoming orthopedic procedures (Pre/Post-Op Care)
    Typical Physical Demands – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. 
    • Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking for varied amounts of time.
    • Occasional stress from daily workload.
    • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. 
    • There is reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

    Work Hours – This is an hourly full-time position, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week; hours may vary. Some travel to additional office locations may be required. 
     
    Education – Graduate of an accredited school of nursing program.
     
    Work Experience – Experience in orthopedic practice setting preferred.  Prior experience working with EPIC desired. 
     
    License and Certification - Current, active, and unrestricted registered LPN license from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.  Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
