    Helping Recess Go Right

Recess may look like a break in the school day, but anyone who has spent time around elementary students knows better. A lot happens between the bell, the playground, and the line back inside. Students are learning how to share space, solve small problems, follow expectations, and handle the occasional debate over whether someone was "really out."

This role helps make recess safe, fair, and fun for students at Lake Spokane Elementary. You are watching for the student who needs help joining in, the game that is getting a little too intense, the scraped knee that needs care, and the moment when a calm reminder can keep the day moving in the right direction. It is active work. It takes patience, good judgment, and the ability to care about little things that are not actually little to kids.

A strong recess aide helps students feel safe while they play, move, and figure out how to be with one another. That kind of presence matters. Rain or shine, mud or snow, most days bring at least one story worth telling later. This position is for someone who can enjoy the energy of recess and make it one of the best parts of a student's day.

    Terms of Employment and Salary

The hourly rate range, based on the 2025-2026 salary matrix, for the position is Min. $17.70 - Max. $23.90. Salary placement will be at Step 1 of the Nine Mile Classified Public Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Collective Bargaining Agreement and Salary Schedules can be found on the For Employees page of the Nine Mile Falls School District website at 9mile.org. Nine Mile Falls policies and Procedures can be accessed online at 9mile.org under the Our District page.

Each employee shall accumulate up to twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed for less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. (Example: An employee working 10 months will receive 10 days of sick leave.) A maximum of three (3) Annual Leave days is provided for all employees based on the employee's scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out, as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Employees anticipated to work 630 hours or more per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the Washington State Department of Retirement Services.

Schedule: 3.25 Hours per day (10:15 am - 1:30 pm), Monday through Friday, pursuant to the 2026/27 school calendar.
