    Job Description:

    The Special Teams Volunteer will be mentored by the Special Teams Coordinator tand will shadow the daily operations, preparation, and execution of LSU Special Teams Units. This opportunity is designed for an aspiring coach seeking hands-on experience at the highest level of college football.

    The volunteer will gain valuable exposure through observing, shadowing, and mentoring opportunities within the program. This individual will closely study the structure, planning, teaching methods, and operational processes involved in building an elite special teams unit.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Observe daily special teams meetings, practice periods, and game-week preparation to gain a comprehensive understanding of unit structure and coaching methodology.
    • Shadow the Special Teams Coordinator in day-to-day operations, including planning, opponent breakdown, drill design, and practice scripting.
    • Participate in film breakdown, data collection, tendency reports, and opponent scouting.
    • Support the preparation of special teams scouting reports, call sheets, and weekly presentation materials.
    • Help organize practice scripts, drill cards, depth charts, and personnel groupings.
    • Learn to chart practice and game performance metrics for all special teams units (punt, punt return, kickoff, kickoff return, field goal/PAT).
    • Observe and, at times, participate during meetings, walkthroughs, and practices.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding team strategy, personnel, and internal operations.

    The volunteer will have opportunities to:

    • Be mentored by the Special Teams Coordinator and coaching staff
    • Learn how elite coaches teach technique, fundamentals, and situational football
    • Develop an understanding of weekly game-planning strategy and opponent analysis
    • Gain insight into staff communication, leadership, and decision-making processes
    • Study how special teams impacts field position, momentum, and winning football
