Job description:

We are seeking an experienced Load Tap Changer (LTC) Technician / Technical Trainer to support in-house operations and training programs. This position combines hands-on technical work with the opportunity to train employees and customers on LTC assembly, overhaul, testing, and control systems.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience working with power transformers and Load Tap Changers, enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment, and is passionate about sharing technical knowledge.

Location: Dallas, TX

Schedule: Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM–2:45 PM

Key Responsibilities

Technical Operations

  • Assemble, disassemble, repair, and overhaul Load Tap Changers (LTCs).
  • Perform electrical and mechanical testing, including:
  • Hi-Pot
  • TTR
  • Ductor
  • Megger
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.
  • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and control drawings.
  • Verify control systems, alarms, interlocks, CT wiring, and auxiliary systems.
  • Maintain quality standards and ensure compliance with safety procedures.

Technical Training

  • Deliver classroom and hands-on technical training for employees, service personnel, and customers.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, work instructions, SOPs, and technical manuals.
  • Evaluate trainee performance through practical demonstrations and knowledge assessments.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for LTC systems and best practices.

Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare technical reports and testing documentation.
  • Support process improvements related to safety, quality, productivity, and training effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, and Sales teams to improve products and processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with power transformers and Load Tap Changers.
  • Experience with transformer maintenance, assembly, testing, or field service.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical documentation skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred

  • Technical degree or certification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Technology.
  • Experience delivering technical training or mentoring technicians.
  • Experience working with multiple LTC manufacturers.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of LTC repair, maintenance, and diagnostics.
  • Experience with electrical testing equipment and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Operate hand tools and light machinery.
  • Occasional travel to support customer or company locations.
