Title: Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher

Primary Function: The Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher is responsible for providing standards-aligned instruction to students in grades 9–12 in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences. The employee plans, implements, and evaluates instructional programming designed to develop students’ knowledge and skills in areas including, but not limited to, nutrition and wellness, food preparation, personal finance, child development, family relationships, consumer education, textiles, housing, and career readiness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction in Family and Consumer Sciences courses consistent with Pennsylvania academic standards, district curriculum, and board-approved instructional goals.
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, assessments, and learning activities that address course objectives and student learning needs.
  • Provide instruction in content areas that may include nutrition, food science, food preparation, kitchen and laboratory safety, personal finance, consumer decision-making, child development, parenting, family and interpersonal relationships, textiles, housing, interior design, and career exploration.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and orderly classroom and laboratory environment conducive to learning.
  • Demonstrate and enforce safe practices in the use of classroom, kitchen, laboratory, and other instructional equipment and materials.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies and technologies to support student engagement, achievement, and differentiated learning.
  • Assess student performance through formal and informal measures and maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and progress.
  • Use student performance data to monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and communicate student progress to parents/guardians in accordance with district procedures.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English learners, and students requiring enrichment or intervention.
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, counselors, special education staff, and other support personnel to advance student achievement and well-being.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and district policies.
  • Comply with all Board policies, administrative regulations, school rules, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Pennsylvania Family & Consumer Sciences Certification

Possesses knowledge of current instructional practices and assessment; excellent communication and human relation skills; strong organizational skills; possesses a multi-disciplinary perspective, and has a background in teclmologies use preferred.
