Purpose
To outline essential job duties, qualification requirements and working conditions for the regular part-time position of Lube Technician. Looking for someone eager and motivated to learn and move into a Mechanic role.

Essential Job Duties

  • Responsible for semi-skilled mechanical equipment repair work of gasoline and diesel powered automotive stock, heavy equipment and related components in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performsequipment service, tire repair, welding part procurement and maintenance.
  • Performs preventative maintenance including oil or fluid changes and chassis lubrication.
  • Repairs or replaces lights, brakes and related parts, tires and tubes, chassis parts, interior and exterior mounted vehicle components, safety equipment and communication systems including vehicle wiring.
  • Performs work in compliance with safety regulations and actively participates in Safety Programs.
  • Follows procedures for creating requisitions, obtaining repair service parts and supplies, producing and maintaining records of labor, parts and supplies used in work production. Demonstrates knowledge of parts buying and stocking.
  • Tests and inspects completed work to assure effective performance and timely completion.
  • Monitors and maintains an organized, clean and safe work environment. Performs general clean up tasks throughout shift.
  • Adheres to established safety procedures and utilizes safety equipment as required.
  • Maintains current documentation of procedures and tasks to explain position responsibilities.
  • Creates, updates and implements process improvement procedures, tasks, workflows and systems.
Other job functions:
  • Performs minor electrical and diagnostic work, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of apprentice level automotive mechanic experience with gasoline and heavy diesel equipment and testing tools. Successful completion of technical school courses in gasoline and diesel engine repair may substitute for some or all of the experience requirement.
  • Must possess a current WA State Driver's License and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must obtain a First Aid/CPR Certification within 6 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
  • Welding training and certification preferred (Acetylene, Arc and MIG).
Requires knowledge of:
  • The field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by example in this job description.
  • Principles, procedures and practices of heavy equipment maintenance and testing functions.
  • Computer operation and a variety of software including Microsoft Office suite of products and database systems. Work order software experience preferred.
  • Safety and security hazards, precautions, standards, policies and procedures.
Requires the ability to:
  • Furnish personally owned hand tools with sufficient tool inventory to complete work assignments.
  • Skillfully use hand and machine tools, testing equipment, welders, torches and other automotive equipment associated with diagnosis and repair of fleet equipment.
  • Support a strong culture of safety; attend and participate in safety training; adhere to City policies and procedures; use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate; report safety issues or concerns to management in a timely manner; encourage others to behave in a safe manner.
  • Be attentive to detail and maintain a high degree of accuracy in performing duties and maintaining records of duties performed.

Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in shop and outdoor settings for extended periods, in very dirty environments in all weather conditions. Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Temperatures range from above 100 degrees in the summer to below freezing in the winter.
  • Noise levels range from quiet to very loud requiring ear protection.
  • May be exposed to hazards from obstacles, machinery and fumes associated with shop environments and automotive repair work.
Requires the ability to:
  • Use appropriate safety equipment and follow safety policies, practices and procedures.
  • Have flexibility in working hours, report to work on an emergency basis with short notice and respond to equipment failures on an on-call basis.
  • Maintain good eye sight required for close and distant vision and adjusting focus.
  • Work in close quarters and confined spaces. Reach with hands and arms. Sit, stand, walk, bend over, ambulate up and down ladders and stairs, and have good hand to eye coordination, and finger dexterity to handle, feel and/or operate objects, tools and controls. Occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk and hear with background noise.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.

At its sole discretion, the City of Wenatchee may consider combinations of education, experience, certifications and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications contained herein.
  • Vacation leave will be earned at a rate of 10-hours per month and will be available for use upon successful completion of the initial review period.
  • Sick leave will be earned at a rate of 8-hours per month.
  • Annual Paid Holidays (1st year prorate): Eleven 8-hour designated holidays (11th holiday for AFSCME positions under MOU through 2025) + one 8-hour floating holiday.
  • Medical/Dental/Vision plans. We have two health plans to choose from: 1) High Deductible Health Plan (the City pays 100% of the employee premium); or 2) $250 deductible plan (the City pays 90% of the employee premium). The High Deductible Plan includes a City contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA) in the amount of $125/month for the employee or $250/month for the employee with dependents. The City pays 75% of dependent premiums under either plan.
  • Membership in the WA State Public Employee Retirement System (PERS).
  • Optional participation in a Section 457 Deferred Comp Plan with a City match up to 2% of base pay.
  • $25,000 basic life/$25,000 AD&D insurance policy with premiums paid by the City on the employee's behalf.
