Anesthesiology Locum Opportunity – Northern California
A major academic healthcare system is seeking Board-Certified Anesthesiologists for ongoing locum coverage. Providers will work across multiple inpatient and ambulatory surgery settings and should be comfortable managing a mix of routine and higher-acuity surgical cases.
Compensation: $390/hr
Assignment Details
Start Date: August 2026
Contract Length: 26+ weeks
Schedule:
4 or 5 days per week
Typical shifts range from 8–10 hours
Minimum of 40 hours per week expected
No call required
Full-time preferred, but providers able to commit to at least 2 weeks per month will be considered
Practice Setting
Academic hospital system
Inpatient and outpatient surgical coverage required
Providers will rotate between multiple hospital and ambulatory surgery center locations
Epic EMR
CRNA support available
Adult and adolescent patient population (13+)
Clinical Responsibilities
General anesthesia coverage for inpatient and outpatient procedures
Independent practice in the operating room
Occasional supervision of CRNAs
Coverage across various surgical specialties
Preferred Experience
Recent mix of inpatient and outpatient surgical anesthesia
Experience with higher-acuity patients (ASA III+)
Regional anesthesia skills
Experience practicing independently
Experience at tertiary care centers
Trauma anesthesia experience
Academic or teaching hospital experience
Excluded Case Types
Cardiac anesthesia
Liver transplant anesthesia
Neurosurgical anesthesia
Requirements
Required
Board Certified in Anesthesiology (Board Eligible candidates may be considered)
Active California Medical License
Active California DEA with appropriate scheduling authority
Epic experience
Minimum of 2 years of recent anesthesiology experience
Recent inpatient surgical anesthesia experience
Ability to cover both inpatient and outpatient settings
Preferred
ACLS (AHA)
BLS (AHA)
Fellowship training
Support Staff
CRNA support available
Providers will primarily work independently, with occasional CRNA supervision responsibilities
Credentialing
Estimated credentialing timeframe: 60–90 days
One to two interviews expected
Two professional references required prior to offer consideration
Additional Notes
Recent chronic pain management practice alone is not considered sufficient experience for this role
Providers must be comfortable floating between multiple facilities within the health system
High-acuity inpatient experience is strongly preferred
