OB/GYN Hospitalist
Assignment Details
• Location: Davenport, Iowa
• Practice Setting: Hospital
• Coverage: 24-hour in-house OB/GYN Hospitalist coverage
• Trauma Level III
Compensation: $275/hr
Schedule
• 24-hour shifts (8:00 AM–8:00 AM)
• Weekday coverage required (Monday–Friday)
• Weekend coverage welcomed
• No overtime
• Call schedule available 1–2 months in advance
• Providers may not work two consecutive 24-hour weekday shifts
• Consecutive Friday/Saturday, Saturday/Sunday, or Sunday/Monday shifts are permitted
• On-site sleep room available
Clinical Details
• On-call coverage only
• Approximately 65–80 deliveries per month
• Cover OB/GYN Emergency Department calls
• Round on hospitalized OB/GYN patients
• Cover unassigned patients (approximately 1 or fewer per day)
• Circumcisions if comfortable (not required)
• Resident typically on call with the locum physician
• Patient Population: Approximately 40% low-risk pregnancies and 60% high-risk pregnancies
• Average Nursery Admissions: 2–5 per day
• Support Staff: 1–2 Certified Nurse Midwives, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Operating Room, Emergency Department
• EMR: Cerner (transitioning to Epic; virtual Epic training required)
Required Procedures
• Low- and high-risk obstetric care
• Fetal heart rate interpretation (NST, CST, FSE)
• Obstetric ultrasound (Level I/viability)
• Amniocentesis
• Routine and complicated vaginal deliveries
• Cesarean sections
• Breech and multiple births
• VBAC management
• Repair of 3rd- and 4th-degree lacerations
• Open gynecologic surgery
• Diagnostic and minor laparoscopic procedures
• Major gynecologic surgery including ectopic pregnancy, oophorectomy, cystectomy, and extensive lysis of adhesions
Requirements
• Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology
• Active Iowa medical license or active IMLC Letter of Qualification
• Fetal Monitoring certification
• Weekday availability required
• DEA as required for practice
• Two professional references (one from a supervisor or above)
• Clean malpractice and background history
• Current NPDB Self-Query required at presentation
Credentialing
• Approximately 30–90 days
• Virtual Epic training required prior to start
