Position Purpose
The Lunch/Recess Monitor supervises students during their designated lunch and recess periods. The primary goal is to ensure a safe, orderly, and positive environment in both the cafeteria and on the school playground.
Key Responsibilities
Student Supervision: Active monitoring of students in the cafeteria, hallways, restrooms, and outdoor playground areas to prevent accidents and ensure safety rules are followed.
Conflict Resolution: Gently intervening to resolve minor student disputes, promoting positive social interactions, and reporting any significant behavioral issues or bullying to the administration.
Emergency Response: Assisting in directing students during emergency drills or real evacuations, and immediately reporting any student injuries, illnesses, or physical hazards to the School Nurse.
Cafeteria Assistance: Helping students with tasks like opening food packaging, managing clean-up, and directing table dismissal to maintain an orderly flow.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children (preferred).
Interpersonal Skills: Warm, patient, and authoritative communication style with kids, alongside a collaborative attitude toward fellow staff.
Physical Demands: Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift, and tolerate various outdoor weather conditions during recess.
Requirements: Must pass standard New York State fingerprinting and background clearance.
