Lute Man/Raker

We are seeking a hardworking and experienced Lute Man/Raker to join our paving crew on heavy highway construction projects. This role is essential for ensuring a smooth and even asphalt surface by manually distributing and finishing hot mix asphalt behind the paver.

Key Responsibilities:

• Use a lute/rake to level and smooth hot mix asphalt behind the paver

• Ensure proper joints, edges, and transitions are formed according to project specifications

• Assist with handwork in tight or hard-to-reach areas where paving equipment cannot operate

• Maintain awareness of mat temperature and work quickly to preserve material quality

• Support paving crew with general labor tasks as needed

• Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times

Requirements:

• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in asphalt paving, preferably on heavy highway projects

• Skilled in hand raking and lute work for finish paving

• Ability to work in hot, physically demanding conditions

• Strong teamwork and communication skills

• Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as required

Compensation: Based on experience $20-24/hr+ benefits
