TITLE: Senior M&A Integration Manager, Tax & Accounting

REPORTS TO: Head of M&A Integration

LOCATION: Fully remote (US-based)

COMPENSATION: $140,000–$220,000 base + annual bonus + equity opportunity following tenure

TRAVEL: ~25% (occasional on-site visits at acquired firms)

TYPE: Individual contributor

Harrison Gray Search is partnering with a nationally recognized, fee-only, majority employee-owned RIA to identify an M&A Integration Manager focused specifically on the acquisition and integration of tax and accounting firms into the wealth management platform. Our client is one of the more active acquirers in the wealth management space, with a differentiated M&A model that emphasizes long-term partnership over roll-up economics. The firm has recently expanded its M&A focus beyond RIAs into the tax and accounting space, and is building the internal expertise and playbooks to execute that strategy at scale.

This is a newly built role with meaningful urgency: several recently closed acquisitions are awaiting full integration, additional deals are in the pipeline, and the successful candidate will play a foundational role in shaping how the firm integrates tax and accounting acquisitions going forward.

Role Overview

The M&A Integration Manager leads the diligence, onboarding, and integration of acquired tax and accounting firms into a wealth management environment. This is a specialized role — the ideal candidate brings deep M&A integration experience specifically involving tax and accounting firms, along with the interpersonal skill set to guide founders and their teams through the operational, regulatory, and cultural realities of joining a larger organization.

The role reports to the Head of M&A Integration and works closely with the Head of the Tax & Accounting Business, the COO, and the CEO. It is highly visible internally, with regular exposure to executive leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

Due Diligence

  • Manage the initial due diligence request list and interview sellers
  • Coordinate data gathering and conduct site visits
  • Follow up on additional due diligence requests as needed
  • Distribute and summarize findings for the CEO, COO, Head of M&A, and other key stakeholders

Onboarding

  • Lead initial discovery sessions with the Integration Team
  • Establish and maintain communication with potential partner firms
  • Manage project plans, including timelines, milestones, deliverables, and overall status
  • Lead complex integration projects involving acquired tax and accounting firms, ensuring alignment of people, processes, technology, and client service models
  • Partner with potential firms, third-party vendors (including custodians), and internal teams to close transactions successfully

Integration

  • Initiate project teams to execute systems integration across network, applications, and operations
  • Coordinate portfolio transitions with Investment teams as needed
  • Partner with internal teams on post-close training design and delivery
  • Manage and monitor integration work plans across all required departments

Advisory & Playbook Development

  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert on tax and accounting firm integration — coaching M&A colleagues, business partners, and functional teams (Compliance, Operations, IT, HR) on the unique considerations of the tax industry
  • Help build the firm's tax-integration playbook, including protocols around client data governance, IRS Rule 7216 compliance, and the operational nuances of tax firm workflows
  • Identify integration risks, compliance considerations, operational dependencies, and mitigation strategies
  • Act as a catalyst to resolve project issues and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Serve as a liaison between business units, technology teams, and support teams

Ideal Candidate Profile

Preferred

Prior M&A integration experience specifically involving the acquisition and integration of tax and accounting firms, ideally within a wealth management, RIA, accounting, or professional services environment

Possible Exception

  • Exceptionally strong pure M&A integration leaders with a demonstrated track record integrating professional services firms may be considered even without direct tax experience — but tax firm integration experience is strongly preferred

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred

Experience

  • 5–10+ years of progressive M&A integration, onboarding, or transformation experience in financial services or a related professional services environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex integration initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, timelines, and cross-functional workstreams
  • Direct experience working with advisors, founders, partners, or firm principals in a client-facing capacity
  • Working knowledge of tax and accounting firm operations, workflows, and industry-specific compliance considerations (including IRS Rule 7216)

Personality & Working Style — Critical

This role is high-touch, high-stakes, and often ambiguous. The candidates who succeed in it tend to be:

  • Warm, energetic, and comfortable engaging directly with founders and small-business owners going through what is often the most consequential transition of their careers
  • Part relationship manager, part project manager, part customer service professional — able to hold a founder's confidence through a difficult moment and then quickly execute
  • Comfortable operating in dynamic, uncomfortable environments where every deal brings new complexity and no two integrations are identical
  • Able to convey calm confidence in the face of unfamiliar issues, then work the problem behind the scenes
  • Strong operational or frontline management background is highly valued; prior experience in customer service or advisor-facing operations is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $140,000–$220,000, commensurate with experience and location
  • Annual team-based incentive/bonus opportunity
  • Equity ownership opportunity following demonstrated performance in the role (typically 6–12 months)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage effective day one
  • HSA/FSA options, company-paid life, AD&D, and disability
  • 401(k) with company match (Roth and Traditional)
  • Generous PTO, at least 10 paid holidays, parental leave, summer hours
  • Fully remote work environment, US-based

Why This Opportunity

  • Foundational role in a growing area of an established, well-capitalized firm's M&A strategy
  • Direct visibility to executive leadership (CEO, COO, Head of M&A, Head of Tax & Accounting)
  • Majority employee-owned firm — meaningful long-term equity upside for team members who perform
  • Values-driven, collaborative culture with an integrated advisory/tax/planning model
  • Newly built role with the latitude to shape the firm's tax integration playbook from the ground up
