Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Provide a high-quality swim lesson for members and non-members of the Michigan Athletic Club following American Red Cross guidelines. To help children and adults of all ages develop proper swimming techniques and skills.

Essential Duties

  • Follow American Red Cross guidelines and standards for Learn to Swim program
  • Prepare lesson plans in accordance with Level teaching
  • Assess the progress of each student and adjust lesson plans accordingly.
  • Identify incorrect swimming techniques and correct students accordingly.
  • Prepare report cards for each student in class.
  • Provide direct communication with parents regarding child(ren)''s progress or concerns.
  • Responsible for scheduling private lessons in advance, using Club Automation to ensure proper payment is collected
  • Complete attendance, progress and incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Promptly communicate concerns, incidents, program needs, equipment or supply needs with Youth Programs Supervisor
  • Attend in-service trainings and staff meetings
  • Keep equipment organized and in the proper place, making sure items are in good working condition
  • Demonstrates the MAC customer service model and Sparrow ICARE values.

Job Requirements

General Requirements •     Must complete CPR certification within 60 days of hire. Work Experience •     Prior work as a Swim Instructor or Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor certification preferred Education •     HS Diploma/GED Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Strong swimming ability, knowledge of proper swimming techniques and water safety rules, must enjoy working with children, motivating, patient and enthusiastic
