Machine Operator $20–28/hour

Converting – Denver, Colorado

Job Duties

Specific duties and responsibilities will depend on which machine you are focusing on. This will be discussed further during the interview phases and is decided by each individual’s skill level, knowledge, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing all activities associated with running machinery. This includes staging, setup, operation, quality, and clean-up.
  • Perform visual inspections of dies and plates prior to installation.
  • Troubleshoot production and quality issues and provide corrective action.
  • Ability to work either 1st, 2nd, or possibly 3rd shift.
  • Oversee and perform basic preventative maintenance duties.
  • Oversee and perform daily clean-up duties.
  • Ensure all staff on the machine are following and complying with health and safety rules and regulations.

Skills/Abilities

  • Problem Solving – Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Learning Strategies – Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
  • Mathematics – Knowledge of industrial math, including arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Ability to calculate measurement conversions and determine the relationship between tolerances and dimensions within an acceptable range.
  • Computer – Familiar with basic functions of databases and operating systems. Can locate, open, and save files.
  • CAD Drawing – Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings, including dimensions, symbols, notes, and views.
  • Equipment Maintenance – Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Installation – Installing tooling, knife segments, and printing ink to meet specifications.
  • Quality Control Analysis – Conducting tests and inspections of corrugated board to evaluate quality and performance.
  • Material and Operation Analysis – Determining quality of corrugated board and adjusting settings accordingly.
  • Time Management – Managing one’s own time and the time of others.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Experience with the corrugated box industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience on the following machines strongly preferred: Flexo-Folder-Gluers (Bertha, 50” Post, Emba), Rotary Die-Cutters (Gopfert or HyCorr), or Finishing Machines (Post Folder/Gluer, Jumbo Gluer, Bin Bander).

Knowledge

  • Corrugated box types.
  • Converting production processes.
  • Quality control.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
