Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

This role involves operating multiple industrial machines in a large manufacturing facility in the Eastern Indianapolis region. You will perform machine setup and operation, use hand and power tools, and verify product quality using measuring instruments. The position requires standing for extended periods, working in a warm environment, and following detailed production and documentation procedures while supporting 2nd or 3rd shift operations after an initial training period on 1st shift.

Responsibilities

  • Operate up to four industrial machines at a time in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Set up and adjust machines using basic hand and power tools to change tooling as needed.
  • Use quality instruments, such as calipers and other measuring tools, to ensure parts meet established quality specifications.
  • Perform repetitive manual lifting, pushing, and movement of materials throughout the department.
  • Complete accurate documentation of materials, batch numbers, and related information in accordance with internal guidelines and procedures.
  • Monitor machines during operation, identify issues, and assist with basic troubleshooting to maintain safe and efficient production.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and production instructions to ensure correct machine setup and part production.
  • Perform basic mechanical assembly and press or laser operation as required by the production schedule.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Participate in and complete all required training through the on-site training program, including lecture-based and hands-on machinery training.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and support continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of machine operating experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Consistent work history with 1 or more years per job, demonstrating reliability and commitment.
  • Ability to withstand heat and work in a hot, though clean, production environment.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for 8 to 12 hours at a time and perform repetitive manual tasks.
  • Experience operating industrial machines and production equipment.
  • Proficiency using basic hand and power tools for machine setup and tooling changes.
  • Mechanical aptitude and a strong mechanically inclined mindset for understanding machine functions and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to use quality instruments such as calipers and other measuring tools to verify part dimensions.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow detailed work instructions.
  • Capability to perform basic mechanical assembly and press or laser operation as required.
  • Willingness and ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift after completing initial training on 1st shift.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, including 2- to 4-hour extensions at the end of shifts and occasional Saturdays with advance notice.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CNC or other automated machine operation.
  • Experience in mechanical assembly or machine operation in a large-scale manufacturing facility.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting mechanical issues on production equipment.
  • Comfort working within structured training programs that include both classroom-style lectures and hands-on machine training.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation of materials, batch numbers, and production records.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment within a large facility and adapt to different departments as needed.

Available Shifts & Pay

  • 2nd shift from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with potential for overtime extending shifts by 2 to 4 hours // $22
  • 3rd shift from 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM, with potential for overtime extending shifts by 2 to 4 hours // $23
  • TRAINING
    • The first 5-7 weeks you will train on 1st shift 6:30am to 3:00pm // $21

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, approximately 1 million square foot manufacturing facility in the Eastern Indianapolis region. The environment is very hot in certain departments but remains clean and well-maintained. You will work around industrial machinery, presses, lasers, and other production equipment, using hand and power tools, calipers, and quality instruments. Initial training lasts 6 to 8 weeks on 1st shift, from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, through an on-site Global Training Center that includes lecture-style and hands-on machine training. After training, you will move to your assigned shift: 2nd shift runs 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 3rd shift runs 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM Sunday through Thursday. Overtime is typically scheduled as 2- to 4-hour extensions at the end of shifts, with occasional Saturday work communicated in advance. The position requires standing for long periods, repetitive lifting and pushing of materials, and adherence to safety and operational procedures in a busy production environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43680.00 - $49920.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
