Job Title: Machine Operator shaving & scalping
Position Overview: The Machine Operator - Shaving & Scalping is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating shaving, scalping, drawing, and related surface-improvement equipment to process various metal alloys and diameters. This role follows work instructions and production requirements to ensure material is safely processed, inspected, documented, packaged, and moved in accordance with quality, safety, and efficiency standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review work orders, bills of material, specifications, and work instructions to determine alloy, diameter, quantity, routing, and processing requirements.
- Set up, adjust, and operate shaving, scalping, drawing, and related production equipment according to established procedures.
- Change and adjust tooling, dies, blades, guides, speeds, cooling temperature, and lubricants as required for each job.
- Point, weld, grind, feed, and process material as needed to maintain continuous operation and proper material flow.
- Monitor machine operation, material condition, surface finish, dimensional requirements, and production output throughout processing.
- Inspect material and finished product using appropriate measuring and testing tools, including tape measure, micrometer, tensile test equipment, and other quality instruments as applicable.
- Cut samples for quality control and obtain required approvals before continuing production or releasing material.
- Maintain required production, quality, downtime, and work order documentation accurately and submit completed paperwork to the supervisor.
- Label, package, load, unload, and move material using forklifts, cranes, hand carts, or other approved material-handling equipment.
- Report equipment issues, material concerns, quality deviations, and safety hazards to the supervisor, maintenance, or quality personnel in a timely manner.
- Follow all safety, housekeeping, chemical handling, and environmental requirements, including reviewing SDS information and completing daily safety inspections.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and operate safely in fast-paced, dusty, temperature-varied, or confined work environments as required.
- Complete all assigned training, including monthly health and safety sessions, and assist in training new operators as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities and Requirements:
- Work overtime as required based on production needs.
- Assist management, maintenance, quality, and other operators as needed.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Perform basic math functions accurately and use basic computer skills for data entry and production documentation.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. and perform constant standing and walking, with frequent pushing, pulling, and reaching.
- Follow company policies, procedures, attendance expectations, and safety requirements at all times.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
- One to two years of experience operating industrial machinery in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with metal processing, wire drawing, shaving, scalping, or quality inspection preferred.

Shift: 8-hour shift
