Western Welding Academy is seeking a dependable and safety-minded Part-Time Machine Shop Technician to support the daily operation of our machine shop.
This position plays an important role in preparing pipe coupons used in student training, maintaining an organized and efficient workspace, and helping ensure the shop operates safely. The ideal candidate takes pride in accurate work, follows through on responsibilities, and is willing to learn new equipment and processes.
What You’ll Do
- Accurately cut and bevel pipe coupons to specified dimensions and angles.
- Safely operate machine shop equipment using proper procedures and techniques.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
- Identify and report potential safety concerns.
- Support safety initiatives and contribute to a strong culture of workplace safety.
- Assist with special projects and other machine shop needs.
- Track and report the number of pipe coupons completed each week.
- Use basic computer programs to send emails and upload weekly performance metrics.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
- Dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
- Willingness to follow established safety procedures.
- Basic computer skills, including email and uploading key performance indicators.
- Experience working in a machine shop, welding environment, construction setting, or skilled trade is preferred but not required.
- Forklift or telehandler experience is helpful; training may be provided.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and work around machinery for extended periods.
- Ability to safely perform work in an active machine shop environment.
Schedule
This is a part-time position working up to 30 hours per week. A typical schedule may include morning hours, such as 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with flexibility to schedule hours between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. based on shop needs.
