Job Overview:

The Machining Production Supervisor oversees daily CNC machining operations to ensure production targets, quality requirements, and safety standards are consistently achieved. This role blends hands-on machining expertise with leadership responsibilities, including supervising machinists, coordinating workflow, troubleshooting technical issues, and driving continuous improvement within the machining function.

Responsibilities and Duties Required

Leadership & Operations
  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ensure production meets established safety, quality, and delivery standards.
  • Supervise daily machining operations and manage shop floor scheduling.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally to support on-time delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Support root cause and corrective action for internally manufactured non-conforming parts.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Manage employee schedules, timekeeping, efficiency tracking, and weekly reconciliation.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and support development planning.
  • Train employees on equipment, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accountability, professionalism, and leadership presence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment, Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure daily machine maintenance and preventive care activities are completed.
  • Partner with Maintenance to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
  • Maintain work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Support continuous improvement and development of efficient fabrication methods.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to determine required tooling and fixtures.
CNC Machining & Technical Responsibilities
  • Set up, program, and optimize CNC machines (mills, lathes, multi-axis) as required.
  • Review blueprints, CAD/CAM data, and work instructions for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Monitor part quality, perform inspections, and ensure compliance with specifications and tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime.
  • Train, mentor, and cross-train machinists to build team capability and flexibility.
Responsibilities and Duties (Machine) Required
  • Set up, program, and optimize CNC machines (mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines) as needed
  • Review blueprints, CAD/CAM files, and work instructions for accuracy and feasibility
  • Monitor part quality, conduct inspections, and ensure compliance with specifications and tolerances
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate machinists; support skill development and cross-training
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Minimum 10 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in aerospace/defense.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people-management capability.
  • Experience with Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Strong knowledge of 5S methodology.
  • Ability to read blueprints and apply GD&T principles.
  • Understanding of AS9100 quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective in managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (IFS experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of machining, painting, sheet metal, and welding is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate and read English proficiently.
  • Ability to prioritize work as directed by Operations and Planning.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift, move, and transport items up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Frequently required to stand, remain stationary, and reposition to perform tasks.
  • May work on uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Exposure to moving machinery, heavy equipment, and mechanical parts.
  • Requires manual dexterity and coordination to operate computers and equipment.
  • May work in close proximity to others.
Visual Requirements
  • 20/20 vision (corrected acceptable).
  • Ability to perform close work, distinguish colors, maintain peripheral vision, and adjust focus.
  • Ability to read screens, drawings, and documents.
Hearing Requirements
  • Hearing within normal range (corrected acceptable).
  • Ability to detect and respond to changes in machine sounds.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing / factory setting.
  • Occasional work outside normal business hours.
  • High noise levels.
  • Exposure to moving equipment, dust, fumes, mist, and manufacturing chemicals.
