JOB OVERVIEW

Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Responsibilities:

Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment - Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily based on mechanical principles.

Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment - Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Knowledge and use of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Understanding design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

NC & CNC experience with programming, set-up, adjusting, operating, verifies settings and programs by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces adhering to standards.

Programs mills, router, and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers and offsets, compensation, and conditional switches, calculating requirements including basic math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and their applications), and proving part programs.

Maintains equipment by completing instructed preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer s and instructions.

Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs in job turnovers.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Proven experience as a Machinist with formal training setting up and running Mills, Routers, Lathes, and Grinders

Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated, or CNC automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.)

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Must be fluent in English (written and verbal)

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S

Qualifications:

High level of manual dexterity and detail orientation

Ability to use precision measuring and portable coordinate measuring equipment tools to take accurate measurements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.

Knowledge of CNC G&M (preparatory & miscellaneous functions) Code manual input for machine controls

Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material

Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, engineering orders, and technical manuals

Proficient in math and analytical abilities (to include but not limited to Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry)

Able to read and understand the process and material specifications

Job Demands:

Work is performed in a Shop environment and requires the ability to perform extensive standing, driving, walking, and climbing; to lift up to 50lbs. regularly; to manipulate up to 100lbs. with assistance. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb to reach materials, and work in a noisy environment.
