Wingard Aerospace, a growing Baltimore, MD manufacturing company, is seeking a Machinist to join our organization. We are a world class manufacturer of electrical steel laminations and other precision Aerospace metal parts.

This is a full time, non-exempt position with a 4-day work week!

Position Summary

This role supports prototype development, tooling fabrication, and precision machining operations within our aerospace manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for the setup and operation of manual machining equipment to manufacture, repair, modify, and maintain precision components, tooling, fixtures, and prototype hardware.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities, a commitment to quality and safety, and experience producing high-precision components to tight tolerances in a fast-paced research and development setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment including lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and drill presses.
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair precision metal components, tooling, fixtures, and prototype parts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and technical specifications.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and optical comparators to verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Select and properly use cutting tools, inserts, drills, milling cutters, fixtures, and related tooling.
  • Support research and development activities through prototype machining, process improvement, and tooling innovation.
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning, preventive maintenance, and safe machine operation practices.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards, company quality requirements, and aerospace manufacturing procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to meet project timelines and performance objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of machining experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting prototype development and low-volume production.
  • Experience operating and maintaining manual machining equipment.
  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing standards and precision inspection methods.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to machining and measurement.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve machining challenges.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a prototype and low-volume production environment.
  • Ability to interpret tooling drawings, engineering documentation, and technical instructions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable attendance and flexibility to support standard full-time work schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, prototype, or R&D machining environments preferred.
  • ProtoTRAK experience preferred.
  • Cylindrical grinding experience is a plus.
  • GD&T knowledge

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to safely work around industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to follow proper safety procedures and wear required protective equipment.
