Job Summary: Installs, modifies, moves, troubleshoots, repairs and dismantles machinery and equipment according to requisition documentation, layout plans, blueprints or other drawings | Prepares installation site by constructing foundations and aligns and fastens machinery to the foundation using hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks, tools, squares, rules and micrometers | Performs operational tests on newly installed, modified, repaired and moved machinery and equipment to ensure that it meets technical specifications | Fabricates metal parts for prototype equipment based on drawings | Programs PLCs (programmable logic controllers) Impact of the Role:

Essential Functions:

• Assists with the installation, operation, testing, and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments. 
• Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.  
• Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.  
• Measures, examines, and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications. 
• • Required Qualifications:
    • Required education and experience: Attending a Vocational / Technical School or internal training program OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education & Experience or Skillset; No prior experience needed
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Preferred education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree
    • Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred
    • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Mathematical skills. Technical expertise. Manual dexterity. Physical Stamina. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Leadership skills.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
    • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
    • May need to stand for long periods of time.
    • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
    • May be requested to work a different shift.
    • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
    • This position is Safety-Sensitive.
