Job Summary

The CNC Machinist II programs, sets up, and operates all CNC equipment and machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. The machinist utilizes all necessary measuring tools to verify that components are manufactured to the engineering drawings and blueprints. The CNC Machinist II also supports metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

• Knowledge of basic machining practices • Understanding Fadal, Hyundai, and Siemens controls and machines is a plus

Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturers instructions; calling for repairs.

Documents actions by completing production and quality logs as needed.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Load • Loads the feed mechanism by lifting stock into position

Verify • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first run-part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards as required

Maintain • Maintains Specifications by observing all operations related to CNC Mills and Lathes, including turning, facing, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes

Maintain • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations

Maintain • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs as needed

Requirements

• Must have own tools or be willing to obtain as needed

• Able to problem-solve basic CNC issues that arise

Plan • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, location of surfaces, and machining parameters: interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD and T)

Program • Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; and proving parts programs

Set • Sets up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; and tramming heads

Qualifications

Experience: • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a CNC position

Education: • High School Diploma or GED, Technical Certificate, and/or on-the-job training

Complexity of duties: • Attention to detail, use of good judgment

Supervision received: • Direct oversight from the CNC Supervisor

Working conditions: • Extreme noise, heat, cold, dusty environment. Mostly indoors

Mental and physical demands: • Standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying, speaking, listening, climbing, motor coordination skills, coordination of eyes, hand, and feet. Must be able to sit for long periods, some periods of standing, walking, lifting file boxes, speaking, listening, motor coordination skills, and good eyesight for reading documents and data entry
