The Machinist is responsible for machining, rebuilding, and restoring Caterpillar and allied equipment components to OEM specifications. This position operates precision machine tools and measuring equipment to repair shafts, bores, housings, sleeves, and other critical components. The Machinist works closely with service technicians and shop personnel to provide high-quality repairs that improve equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and support customer success.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Strong knowledge of machining principles, metalworking practices, and precision measurement techniques.
Ability to operate manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, boring equipment, presses, and related shop machinery.
Proficient in reading blueprints, technical drawings, repair specifications, and service manuals.
Knowledge of Caterpillar component repair standards and tolerances preferred.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and depth gauges.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain accurate repair documentation and work order records.

Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a machinist, machining technology, or related technical training program.
Experience repairing heavy equipment, diesel engine, hydraulic, powertrain, or industrial components.
Understanding of welding, fabrication, and metal restoration techniques.
Knowledge of CNC programming and operation.
Education Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
Technical school or vocational training in machining technology preferred.

Preferred Experience and Skills
Three or more years of machining experience in a heavy equipment, diesel, industrial, manufacturing, or repair environment preferred.
Experience with line boring, shaft rebuilding, component reclamation, and precision repair work.
Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment and component repair processes preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects while maintaining repair accuracy and turnaround expectations.
Work Environment
Works primarily in a machine shop and heavy equipment repair environment.
Regular exposure to moving machinery, noise, airborne particles, oils, grease, and varying temperatures.
Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating shop equipment for extended periods.
Must be able to safely lift and move materials and components with assistance from lifting devices as required.
Requires adherence to all company safety policies and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
