Key Responsibilities: Set up and operate various machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements. Select and use appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials to achieve desired results. Perform machining operations, such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding, to produce parts and components. Inspect and test finished parts to ensure they meet quality and precision standards. Troubleshoot and repair machinery and equipment as needed. Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and regulations. Collaborate with other machinists, engineers, and technicians to achieve production goals and resolve technical issues. Develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.
Requirements: 2+ years of experience as a machinist, or completion of a machinist apprenticeship program. Strong understanding of machining principles, including geometry, trigonometry, and metallurgy. Proficiency in operating various machine tools, including CNC machines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or certificate in machining or a related field preferred.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with CAD/CAM software and programming languages, such as G-code and M-code. Knowledge of quality control procedures and inspection techniques. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. Certification as a journeyman machinist or equivalent.
Work Environment: The General Machinist will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with exposure to noise, dust, and other hazards associated with machining operations. The role requires standing, walking, and lifting, as well as frequent use of hand tools and machinery. The General Machinist must be able to work in a team environment, with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
