Overview

The Magnetic Resonance Safety Technologist is responsible for ensuring that safety procedures in the Magnetic Resonance (MR) environment are in effect, enforced, and updated, and that all supplier-provided restrictions regarding the use of MR-safe and/or MR-compatible equipment and services are adhered to. In conjunction with other department leaders, they direct the organization''s MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) safety program in accordance with the established continuous safety training recommendations of the latest ACR (American College of Radiology) guidance documents or appropriate alternative.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week day-shift position.

Responsibilities

Performs assessment of each patient with an implanted device to determine feasibility and conditions for entry into the MR environment. Monitors compliance with the daily operations of MR safety procedures. Creates and maintains safety procedures for screening of inpatients and outpatients. Creates and maintains a database of previously evaluated devices. Responsible for annual MRI technologist safety competency assessments. Responsible for MRI safety level assignments of personnel. Establishes and maintains a process to ensure that all people entering the MR environment are screened by MR staff for magnetic objects in their bodies. Establishes and routinely reviews MR safety policies and procedures and assesses the level of compliance by all staff members. In conjunction with other department leaders, coordinates MR safety education via eLearning. Responsible for updating staff on the latest MR safety alerts. Maintains an updated, posted list of MR-safe and MR-compatible equipment, including use restrictions, within the MR department. In collaboration with the MRI Medical Director and Education Coordinator, develops, implements, and manages the MRI safety program, policies, and procedures, including screening, access controls, and staff training. Creates and maintains a record of MR safety for each specific patient with an implanted device. Establishes and maintains partnerships with device manufacturers to ensure up-to-date information on the safety of implanted devices. Assesses and initiates efforts to improve safety zoning of the MR suite. May perform the core functions of an MR Technologist as required. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have graduated from an ARRT-verified educational program with one year of experience required.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability required.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Radiologic Technologist - Radiography (RT - R) OR Radiologic Technologist - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (RT - MR) OR Certified MRI Tech (MRI)
  • Licensed by the Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy in the state of New Hampshire.
