General Summary

The incumbent will perform mail services including sorting, processing, delivering, and collecting mail, and operating the mail management system. The employee will interpret department and institutional rules and regulations concerning mail operations, recommend cost effective mailing methods, and address other special or complex mailing requirements and needs.

This position is a classified part-time .50FTE position (20 hours per week), is benefit eligible, and is eligible for overtime. The anticipated hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Salary Information:

The above salary range reflects the starting step (Step C) Range 38 and ending step (Step M) salary for this classified position and includes a 5% King County compensation provision. As a new employed classified employee, based on annual increments, it will take 5 years to reach Step L on the salary schedule, 11 years to reach step M on the salary schedule. This does not reflect any contractual changes, legislative mandated salary increases or Cost of Living Increases (COLAs) that may be approved in the future.

Essential Tasks

Under the direction of the Administrative Service Manager, this position will:

  • Operating computerized mailing equipment, classifies, rates and meters mail according to U. S. Postal and courier regulations while following departmental policies;
  • Sorts mail and packages by name, department or mailstop;
  • Delivers campus mail and packages on a specific route within a specified time while operating electric cart;
  • Package, rate and create shipping documents for express and ground shipments;
  • Types shipping labels and air bills and supporting commercial invoice documents and prints carrier reports;
  • Prepares mail for bulk mailings using tabbing, addressing and counting equipment. Sorts mailing according to USPS guidelines. Calculates postage and completes USPS Postage Statements for Bulk Mail Entry Unit;
  • Maintain postage records and reports, including receiving log, postage meter activity, and computer generated postage reports. Report discrepancies to Supervisor;
  • Performs service checks on vehicles: Plugs charger into electric carts at end of daily shift. Notes and reports any problems to Supervisor;
  • Perform related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Applies U. S. Postal Service and courier regulations, HCC and departmental policies and procedures to make decisions and perform work duties;
  • Follows established Safety procedures;
  • Ability to support teamwork and cooperation in the work unit and between departments; and ability to work in a multicultural environment;
  • Must maintain highest level of confidentiality at all times;
  • Works under the guidelines of a specified daily schedule and receives daily assignments from the supervisor beyond the routine schedule;
  • Ability to safely use moving/loading equipment such as hand trucks, dollies and mail carts;
  • Basic knowledge of computer operations including Windows, Word, Outlook and Excel;
  • Work will take place within the office/warehouse environment and outdoors approximately 5 hours daily;
  • Off campus deliveries may be assigned on an as needed basis or backup;
  • Ability to safely operate electric carts on campus pathways.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduation or equivalent; AND
  • Possession of a valid unrestricted Washington State Drivers license at time of hire; AND
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions such as rain, fog, ice, snow, wind and extreme temperatures; AND
  • Must be able to move and lift objects weighing approximately 35-70 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis; AND
  • Must be able to work standing or walking for four or more hours per day; AND
  • Must have ability to speak, read and write in English.
