Main Plant Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for maintaining the main line, troubleshooting fiber and coax plants, and performing regular preventative maintenance on the entire cable network.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: (include but are not limited to)

• Monitors forward and return network and restores service
• Performs aerial construction on fiber and coax plant
• Splices Coaxial Plant with active and passive devices, active and sweep coax plant
• Assists with prepping fiber cable and splicing
• Works with test equipment
• Works on main line outages and problems
• Resolves service issues at customer residence
• Operates power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, etc.
• Works with heavy duty equipment (boring rigs, plows and any other heavy machinery) and small tools in the installation, repair and maintenance of outside plant facilities
• Performs construction work such as digging holes, placing cable, and inner duct in various types of conduit systems and open excavations; unreels and pulls cable from pedestal or pole to buildings, building entrances, etc.
• Connects wires and cables to terminals and attaches or detaches various kinds of wires and cables in pedestals, on poles, and in protectors
• Splices fiber and co-ax cables and installs appropriate enclosures
• Completes all associated paperwork in timely manner
• Maintains and performs minor repairs on heavy equipment
• Cleans, maintains and stocks assigned vehicle
• May need to apply basic principles and concepts of mechanical and electrical functions in day-to-day work
• May need to apply understanding of HFC (hybrid fiber-coaxial) headend equipment and distribution architecture

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with procedures established by the company on the evaluation of management personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS & PREREQUISITES:

LEVEL I:

Required:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Must be able to obtain valid Class D chauffeur''s license within 60 days of employment

LEVEL II:

Required:

• 2 years of experience in HFC (hybrid fiber-coaxial) Main Plant Operations
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Valid Class D chauffeur''s license and reliable transportation

LEVEL III:

Required:

• 5 years of experience in HFC (hybrid fiber-coaxial) Main Plant Operations
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Valid Class D chauffeur''s license and reliable transportation
