JOB SUMMARY:

The Economic Development Coordinator manages job functions at the direction of the Main Street /Economic Development Director. The coordinator assists to drive economic growth and development within the City of Hampton and is responsible for coordinating strategies, programs, and initiatives that promote economic sustainability and prosperity.

POSITION CONTEXT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, stand, talk, and operate multiple types of equipment in varying degrees of temperature for an extended period of time

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Works closely with Main Street/ Economic Development Director in all facets of the job functions as outlined in the full description.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Compile mobile analytics data from Placer, ai and other Artificial Intelligence platforms for retail attraction, conducting market analysis, and to attract businesses to the City of Hampton
  • Researches, analyzes, and develops economic development plans
  • Maintains an up-to-date community profile report of the City of Hampton, including economic statistics and indicators, local businesses, and services
  • Coordinates visits to the City of Hampton for prospective investors
  • Drafts reports and presentations for Main Street/Economic Development Director to make to Mayor and Council and other groups as required
  • Coordinates advocacy and support to new business proponents, industry, community services and community organizations
  • Schedules all required public hearings
  • Creates and maintains a list of local businesses to be contacted for business communication outreach
  • Coordinates marketing strategies that will encourage business development and retain existing businesses
  • Creates marketing materials for promoting the City of Hampton
  • Maintain an inventory of vacant properties and buildings throughout the City
  • Evaluate and recommend building/ improvement projects with the Community Development Department and provide progress reports as required to Main Street Director
  • Stay updated on local, regional, and national economic development trends, policies, and best practices to inform decision-making and strategy development
  • Coordinates economic development activities for small business owners and community organizations
  • Coordinates economic development strategic planning, business development, and community engagement strategies for stakeholders
  • Attends all city events hosted through Main Street assisting where needed
  • Evenings, weekends, and holiday time will be required for special events
  • Must have a broad general knowledge of business and government coupled with an ability to handle a variety of projects which must be completed within deadlines
  • Must have the skills necessary to complete grant applications
  • Must have the ability to undertake research projects and prepare comprehensive reports
  • Must have solid analytical and computer skills
  • Ability to gather, collate, and analyze a variety of data
  • Must have a working knowledge of blueprints, codes, statistics, technical sketches, and graphics
  • Able to provide creative leadership while making individual contributions to team projects and tasks
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other City employees, Elected officials, volunteers, and the public
  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-tasked environment amid frequent interruptions and to redirect focus of attention to tasks
  • Ability to prioritize, solve problems, be flexible and make decisions using independent judgement
  • Ability to clearly articulate objectives, goals, and instructions
  • Responds to RFI's from the State Economic Development Department as instructed
  • Ability to utilize social media to maximize programs goals and objectives

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a four-year college degree in commerce, economics, business management, graphic design or a related field and/or certification as a Professional Economic Developer (EcDev)

Working experience in Economic Development, marketing, graphic design, and public relations or any combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.

Must possess a valid GA Driver's License.
