Job Title

Senior Mainframe COBOL Developer – Medicaid Systems

Overview / Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe COBOL Developer to support Medicaid IT systems for our client in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This role involves maintaining and enhancing claims adjudication and payment processing systems, supporting ongoing production work, and contributing to upcoming FY26 projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with Medicaid Services MMIS and MEDS teams to implement coding changes in COBOL and ADS programs
  • Develop and maintain applications using IDMS Network Database or IDMS Relational Database
  • Analyze technical and design specifications to implement required changes
  • Debug, unit test, and integration test application changes
  • Support QA, User Acceptance, and External Testing by resolving coding issues and implementing updates
  • Collaborate with customers, development staff, operational staff, QA staff, Clemson staff, and contracted staff
  • Participate in rotational on-call support duties
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats
  • Support production systems and contribute to smaller short-term projects as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with Mainframe technologies
  • 10+ years of experience with MVS COBOL
  • 10+ years of experience with JCL
  • 10+ years of experience with IDMS/Network
  • 7+ years of experience with CA-ADS
  • 5+ years of experience with Changeman
  • 5+ years of experience with CICS
  • 5+ years of experience with VSAM
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Self-motivation and problem-solving ability
  • Strong analytical thinking and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a stressful environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAS
  • Experience with File-Aid
  • Experience with Medicaid or Medicare claims processing
  • Experience with MQ
  • Experience with Endevor
  • Experience with Xpeditor
